Voting to ‘Break Bush Off’?

Friday, October 22nd, 2004 | Politics

The election is 11 days away. Wifey and I have made our Votergasm.com pledges and intend to stick to them. Living in Pennsylvania, a swing state, means I’m bombarded with political ads non-stop. I made the mistake of turning on one of the so-this-is-what-passes-for-music-these-days stations and got an earful of an ad that almost made me drive off the road.

BreakBushOff.com is airing ads that target blacks. I didn’t know it was possible to squeeze so many lies and half-truths into 30-seconds.

Ad: “You’ve Heard the Ads”

You knew it would happen sooner or later.

George Bush and the Republicans are using lies and underhanded tactics to confuse black voters about John Kerry.

Lets not be confused. This is the same George Bush who stole the election in 2000 by denying thousands of African-Americans the right to vote.

Fought the University of Michigan all the way to the Supreme Court to keep our black kids from getting admitted to college because he said it discriminated against white students. Discriminated against white students? You’ve got to be joking.

Bush must have felt the same way about the Vietnam draft. Why should he and other wealthy white boys be treated like everyone else and have to join the armed forces? That’s why his daddy got him a special assignment to gaurd Alabama during when John Kerry was fighting the Viet Cong.

Now Bush is trying to tell you that we’re better off with him? We know the facts.

George Bush and the People of Color United aren’t fooling me. Don’t be bamboozled by George Bush and his slick ads.

Don’t keep getting played. Go to BreakBushOff.com

Er… doesn’t breaking someone off mean to rock their world sexually? PinkThunder says she’ll pass.

The nutty Left is becoming more desperate than a dope fiend trying to buy a fix with aluminum cans. They know blacks aren’t passionate about voting for Kerry, so they’re trying to scare out the vote.

Exposing the Lies

#1: George Bush and the Republicans are using lies and underhanded tactics to confuse black voters about John Kerry.

Pointing to Kerry’s 20-year anti-defense senate record isn’t lying. Highlighting his conflicting statements about anything that counts isn’t underhanded. Sadly, it’s the truth.

#2: Lets not be confused. This is the same George Bush who stole the election in 2000 by denying thousands of African-Americans the right to vote.

The urban myth that won’t die. For the last time, the election wasn’t stolen. Nobody denied blacks the right to vote. After its 6-month investigation following the election, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights issued a report that found no evidence of voter intimidation, harassment or intentional or systematic disenfranchisement of black voters. The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division didn’t find anything either. Left-wing nuts know that some of us will believe this no matter what the truth is.

#3: Fought the University of Michigan all the way to the Supreme Court to keep our black kids from getting admitted to college because he said it discriminated against white students.

That’s like saying Bush tried to put “White Only” signs on every college and university in the country. Two students in separate lawsuits against the University of Michigan claimed that the school’s policy of giving an advantage to students based on race meant a baked-in advantage for others and the opposite for them. In each case they were right.

A diverse student body means a richer educational experience for everyone. Taking race into account during the admissions process is certainly one way to help accomplish this. But the University of Michigan’s admissions criteria put far too much emphasis on race. For example, a perfect score on the SAT was worth 12 points, simply being black was good for 20. Bush’s remarks about the case were dead-on. Everyone is entitled to equal protection under the law.

#4: Bush must have felt the same way about the Vietnam draft. Why should he and other wealthy white boys be treated like everyone else and have to join the armed forces?

Bush could have received preferential treatment, but no one has been able to substantiate the claim. What bothers me is the divisive language used like “wealthy white boys”. Who’s really trying to “play” blacks? Another worn out strategy in the Left’s race-baiting playbook, pitting black against white to deliver votes.

The Left seems to think that blacks are a bunch of dumb sheep incapable of making decisions at the individual level. Scare us and we all run off in the desired direction. Deploy Jesse Jackson and black churches will support Kerry despite his pro-choice position. Well something’s not working. Black support for Bush has doubled since the last election, from 6% to 12%.

So-called progressives are doing a great job of moving America back to the Civil Rights Era.

Don’t be bamboozled.

Don’t keep getting played.

No one can exploit your ignorance if it’s not there to begin with.

Good Post. That ad angers me as well as the many lies perpetuated by kerry and the Democratic party concerning black voter suppression.

I am a 36-year old single mother who would be considered a poor-black democrat. Definitely wouldn’t vote for the Republican crook, George Bush, right? For the last 4 years I’ve heard, believed and echoed that “Bush stole the 2000 election”. This statement is just one of the many fabrications that my own ‘ignorance’ allowed me to recognize as truth. Since his time of appointment, I have anxiously awaited Bush’s removal from office. Ironically, my thirst to vote him out led me to be more attentive to the candidates and issues of the ’04 campaign. My quest for knowledge to use as a weapon against anyone who was a Bush supporter (or unsure of who to vote for) is what converted me. I really began to listen to Kerry….OMG!!! I was one of those ‘idiot voters’ you spoke of that was on a mission to vote Bush out without having any viable reason for voting Kerry in. What does Kerry stand for? Does anybody know? And if the question can be answered, how long will the answer remain the same? I just wish we’d ALL wake up!

I hope being white doesnt disqualify me from making a comment. I heard these ad’s on a popular jazz station in Las Vegas. I was shocked. For years I was hearing how the right is mean spirited. I have never heard anything more mean spirited than these ad’s. I hope this is not the direction of future polical advertising.
