American Idol: Why the less talented remain

Thursday, April 15th, 2004 | Trivialities

Finally, a reasonable theory has been offered to explain why untalented clowns can remain in the contest, but more talented contestants get booted off. It’s the hacks’ obsessed fans, their “People”, that keep them in the running. Unfortunately, this minority skews the voting results and hurts the integrity of the contest:

“Unlike the general public, which would probably be capable of trimming a list of candidates down to a serviceable pop singer by the end of a season, the People are systematically ruining it for everyone. The People must be stopped.”

If one more person votes for that red-headed Frank Sinatra wannabe John Stevens, I’m going to pull what’s left of my hair out by the roots. After watching The Hobbit, Jon Peter Lewis, pass off his maniacal shouting and dancing as a real performance, I’ve seen it all. Even Simon wondered aloud if the show had become “Comedy Idol”, questioning why the audience gave a standing ovation after the “performance”.

Jon and John won’t go away, and it’s their People’s fault.

Fantasia moved me last night with her version of “Summertime”. That’s it. I’m buying a special video capture device today to start backing up all of her performances to my PC. If she released an album today, I’d buy it without a second thought.

I just hope the rest of the country takes back control, and soon. This season is really about when everyone but Fantasia and Latoya will get booted, so we can have a showdown between the only two real competitors in the contest.

Update: It looks like there may be some justice afterall. Jon Peter Lewis just got booted tonight. Thank God.

Your site is a refreshing change from the majority of sites I have visited. When I first started visiting web sites I was excited by the potential of the internet as a resource and was very disappointed initially. You have restored my enthusiasm and I thank you for your efforts to share your insights and help the world become a better place.
